Aloha,

Everyone is doing well and the last report was that they are anchored at
Kawaihae. They are doing coordinated activities with our Makaliʻi ʻohana on
land and on the vessels. The window for them to get there was opened and the
weather was in their favor. Everybody faired well over the Alenuihaha channel.
Iosepa is fulfilling purposes for which it was created! Yay!

Aloha Kakou,

Just an update that since Saturday (4 days ago), Iosepa has been sailing to the Big Island. What a wonderful time this is to have Iosepa sailing again.

Blessings to the Crew Members and Family for their sacrifices. Iosepa may be back for the dedication of the Halau Wa'a around June 26th...

Also, BYUH graduation is this Saturday the 21st of June...chiihoo...

Here are some photos of when Iosepa was brought to Hukilau beach. Pictures of Uncle Bill chanting to Iosepa along with Uncle Kawika, Kamoa'e, and the crew on the wa'a are very chicken skin. Enjoy.

Also, every Wednesday at 8:30pm in the BYUH Dance Studio in the Old Gym there is hula practice with Uncle Cy in preparation for the dedication of the Halau Wa'a. There is a great need for more kane, so please come and join in.

Iosepa is in the Water!!!!

Its so wonderful to see Iosepa in the water. It even gives me chicken skin writing about it. Its a beautiful day and I plan to go and jump in the water. I will post more pictures later, but if you have the chance come down. Apparently the plan is to have a couple sails the next few days and then prepare to holo to the Big Island.

Yesterday I learned some pretty interesting things from Sister Hartmann. She talked about how Iosepa is the only indigenous canoe in Hawai'i which is launched from indigenous waters. She also talked about one of her great grandfathers, Benjamin Franklin Johnson aka BF Johnson was an advisor to Kamehameha III and also a member of the Mission Presidency when Joseph F. Smith came on his mission to Hawai'i. She also said that he assisted in setting then Elder Smith apart as a missionary. She related that experience of her Great Grandfather to what she is doing now to help Iosepa move forward.

Iosepa at Hukilau May 7th 2008

These pictures were taken on May 6, 2008 on the BYUH campus where Iosepa was "temporarily" housed. At the end of June the plans are to place Iosepa in a permanent Halau Wa'a at PCC. We all hope that Iosepa will be accessible to those who need to malama Iosepa. We also hope the spirituality and reverence Iosepa carries will continue. We hope those in authority will do all they can and more to ensure this.

Iosepa will be at Hukilau beach in the morning being prepared to enter the water for the first time since 2005. All those who can come and help, please come by. Apparently there will be sailing around O'ahu, then to Kawaihae and back to O'ahu with possible stops at Kalaupapa.

Iosepa will then have old crew members and community members sail on-board to build up a experienced crew.
